Trip Schedule
Day 1: On arrival in Athens, you will be met and transferred to hotel. The rest of the day is free to head out and explore the city, an incredible contrast of the ancient and the modern.
Day 2: We will start our day with visit to the Athens Old Town. We will see Temple of Olympian Zeus, Zappeion and the Panathenaic Stadium, which is the only stadium in the world built entirely from marble. We also see the Greek Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Later we head to Athens most famous and iconic monument, Acropolis Rock and Museum. The Acropolis is an ancient citadel built on the top of a rock overlooking the city, where except the amazing view, highlights of the site are the Temple of Athena Nike, the Propylae and the most famous of all ancient Greek architecture, the Parthenon. In continue we will visit the Acropolis Museum and the afternoon is at leisure to wander the streets of the picturesque Plaka district.
Day 3: Today we will leave from Athens, heading north, to Delphi, which once was one of the world’s most sacred places and an important pilgrimage destination. We will admire the UNESCOs monument Sanctuary of Apollo and the remains of the Temple of Apollo; home of the legendary Pythian Oracle and we will follow the footsteps of ancient Greeks on the Sacred Way. We will explore the museum and admire the famous bronze statue of the Charioteer. In continue we will cross the mountains heading to Kalambaka.
Day 4: Today we will visit Meteora, where sacred monasteries are built on the top of incredible towering rocks. After we will continue our route north, passing through the striking plain of Thessaly and the Valley of Tempi, and driving under mighty Mount Olympos, home of the twelve Gods in Greek mythology we will arrive in the northern city of Thessaloniki for the night.
Day 5: Today we will explore Thessaloniki, on its most important landmarks and monuments, embracing the glorious Byzantine history of the city and visiting churches and Museum of Byzantine Culture. After our tour, the afternoon is at leisure.
Day 6: Early in the morning, we will start our day exploring the Greek province of Macedonia. First stop is Edessa, where we marvel at the city’s picturesque waterfalls. Then visit Aristotle’s School, where young Alexander the Great was taught the doctrines of morals and politics by the famed philosopher. We will also visit the Royal Tombs of Macedonia at Vergina where the father of Alexander the Great, King Phillip II is buried. Before returning to Thessaloniki, we will stop at Veria, home to the ancient Bema of St Paul.
Day 7: Today we will begin our journey back to the Greek capital, Athens. On the way, we will stop at the ancient city of Pella, which was once the capital of Macedonia, and the birthplace of Alexander the Great. Admire the exquisite floor mosaics and explore the new museum. In continue we will visit the famous archaeological park of Dion, an ancient Macedonian sanctuary at the foot of Mount Olympus. Our final stop of the day before Athens is Thermopylae, where the Spartan King Leonidas with only 300 warriors made his heroic final stand against the Persians in 480BC. On arrival in Athens, your final night in Greece is at leisure.
Day 8: Check out and return flight back home.
